Anasuria: Voices from the North Sea - A New Short Film from AOC
4th April 2024
AOC is proud to present our latest short film, Anasuria: Voices from the North Sea, which highlights the future of the UK’s oil and gas sector, energy security, and the preservation of jobs in the industry.
Last month, our CEO Richard Beattie, alongside Peter Welsh and Gary Smith from the GMB, and Mark Wilson from Offshore Energies UK, visited the Anasuria FPSO. During this visit, we had the opportunity to hear firsthand from our crew, who shared their valuable perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the sector. Their concerns and insights are central to the discussion of how the UK can balance the transition to renewable energy while maintaining a strong domestic oil and gas production base.
The timing of this film is critical, coming just after the release of the North Sea Transition Taskforce report. This report calls for urgent policy actions to ensure a balanced approach to oil and gas production while transitioning towards renewable energy. The taskforce’s recommendations underscore the importance of maintaining a strong domestic oil and gas sector to ensure the UK’s energy security and economic stability.
In the video, our CEO Richard Beattie outlines the company’s position: “To protect UK jobs and safeguard the UK’s future energy needs, we must ensure fair policies for domestic oil and gas production, remove windfall taxes when windfall conditions do not exist, and ensure workers’ voices are heard in the debate.”
The film features interviews with not only our CEO but also members of the GMB, OEUK, and key Anasuria crew members including George Balfour, Bryan Irvine, and Spencer Towes. These voices offer a unique insight into the real-world impacts of energy policies on the workers and families who power the UK’s energy future.
The message is clear: the oil and gas sector is not just about corporations; it’s about the workers, the supply chains, and the broader UK economy. The future of the sector must consider the voices of all those who are affected by the policies and decisions made in this transition period.
We encourage everyone to watch the video and share their thoughts. At AOC, we believe in fostering an open conversation about the challenges facing the sector and the ways in which we can move forward together.
